This workgroup plans and hosts impactful community events, annually and monthly.
The ReCOVEry Cafe
In addition to the walk, the coalition hosts the “Recovery Cafe,” a warm and welcoming space where individuals in recovery, their families, and community members can gather for support, resources, and camaraderie. It serves as a beacon of hope and a safe haven for those navigating the challenges of recovery from a substance use disorder. These meetings are held the first Friday of the Month at the Connecting Point on Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA. 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Walk for Recovery
The “Walk for Recovery,” an annual event that is held each year at Miller Park, Lynchburg. It symbolizes unity and resilience, drawing participants from all walks of life. It’s a celebration of progress and a testament to the strength of those on the path to recovery. The event not only raises awareness but also fosters a sense of solidarity among attendees.
CEO & Legislative Roundtable
The coalition also engages in high-level advocacy through events like the “CEO and Legislative Roundtable,” where leaders from various sectors come together to discuss policy, funding, and initiatives aimed at addressing substance use issues at a systemic level. This forum ensures that the voices of those affected by addiction are heard through local data collection, analysis, and presentation, informing decision-making processes at the highest levels.
State of Collaboration
Another cornerstone event is the “State of Collaboration,” an annual review and celebration of the coalition’s achievements and partnerships. It showcases the power of collaboration across sectors—healthcare, education, law enforcement, social services, and more—in tackling substance use disorders holistically.
Throughout these events and many more, the coalition works tirelessly to reduce stigma surrounding addiction, educate the community about substance use-related problems, and provide vital support to individuals in recovery. By bringing together diverse stakeholders and fostering a culture of compassion and understanding, they aim not only to raise awareness but also to effect tangible change in their community.
