Community Outreach and Education

Looking to educate and engage your community on substance use prevention? You can request any of our training opportunities or invite CVARR to participate in your community health fair. Let’s work together to create a healthier, safer future for all. Contact the coalition coordinator for more information by emailing cvarresources@gmail.com!

Hidden in Plain Sight

Join us for Hidden in Plain Sight, an interactive presentation designed to help parents, caregivers, educators, and community members better understand the challenges facing young people today. Participants will explore current trends in youth substance use, including vaping, nicotine pouches, marijuana products, fentanyl, emerging substances, and other products that are often marketed to or accessible by youth. The presentation also highlights the influence of social media, mental health, and youth culture, while providing practical strategies for prevention, communication, and early intervention.

Attendees will have the opportunity to walk through a mock teen bedroom and identify hidden items and concealment products commonly used to hide substances and paraphernalia. The goal is not to create fear or suspicion, but to increase awareness and help adults feel more confident having conversations with the young people in their lives. This presentation is appropriate for parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, coaches, faith leaders, and anyone who works with or cares about youth.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

This 8-hour certification course trains individuals to recognize, understand, and respond to mental health or substance use crises, covering mental illnesses, opioid overdose response, and self-care for caregivers.

Adverse Childhood Experiences Training

The ACE Interface training program educates communities on how early childhood adversity affects long-term health, exploring neuroscience, epigenetics, the ACE study, and resilience to emphasize the importance of early development for community health and well-being.

Opioid Overdose Response Training

This training provides information on how to respond to an opioid overdose or poisoning emergency using naloxone. Training is available in-person by request or virtually each month (open to the public).

Awareness Campaigns

We aim to educate the public, especially young people and their families, about the risks of substance use through diverse platforms like social media, billboards, and streaming services.

Community Health and Resource Fairs

Engaging face to face with community members at local events is crucial for coalition work, enabling CVARR members to engage directly with the community to raise awareness about substance use, provide resources for prevention and treatment, and promote harm reduction and recovery services. Look for the CVARR tent!

Drug Take Back Day

These events take place in April and October each year and bring local organizations, law enforcement, and community members together to offer safe medication disposal, reducing the risk of misuse, accidental ingestion, and environmental harm.
